DE-ESCALATION STRATEGIES & TECHNIQUES

Our emotions tend to get the best of us when dealing with high-pressure or stressful events. We can then coach you through the process of planning an injured employee’s return to work.

RESOLUTION TOPICS

Despite advances in technology that have increased your team member’s ability to interact, creating and maintaining healthy peer-relationships in the workplace has become increasingly complex. Research into current employment trends shows that employee turnover is at unprecedented levels.

The reality is that the younger generations that form our workforce require increased care, acknowledgement and inclusion and the traditional approaches to staffing are no longer practical. If the needs of team members go unmet, employees will seek prospective opportunities elsewhere.

Workability Coaches experienced in the areas of conflict resolution, professional communication, and health and wellness can work with individual members or entire teams to encourage a healthy and respectful workplace and employee retention.

RESOLUTION TOPICS

There’s no doubt that technological advances have made it easier for team members to communicate consistently. Fostering healthy peer relationships in the workplace, however, has become more complex. Current research around employment trends shows that employee turnover is at unprecedented levels.

Employers are beginning to realize that younger generations, who form a high percentage of our workforce, require increasing care, acknowledgement, and inclusion in the workplace. The traditional — and now outdated — model of fostering company values is no longer practical. If a team member feels that their needs are unmet, they’ll search for employment elsewhere.

Our team of Workability Coaches are top-tier experts in conflict resolution, professional communication, and health and wellness. We can work with individual members through one-on-one sessions or tackle large teams to foster an inclusive company culture and help organizations increase employee retention.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

In an environment where there are deadlines, and performance and production is continuously assessed, it’s not uncommon for differences in opinion to arise. However,  when these differences evolve into conflict, the best practices to address the matter in a calm and timely manner. Identifying the barrier(s) is the first step in a worker-centred approach to effective resolutions. Our Coaches are well-versed in building rapport and utilising techniques that prompt participants to take an in-depth and honest look into what is holding them back and encourages participation and accountability in forming a collaborative plan.

ACCEPTING AND EMBRACING DIFFERENCES

The United States and Canada are home to some of the most diverse and multicultural working cultures on the planet. This diversity fills workplaces with unique traits and life-experience that promote an advantageous connection with your clients but may also cause a rift in your team.
A Workability Coach provides a new lens for your team to view team members – encouraging them to accept and embrace unique strengths and approaches, instead of focusing on differences.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Most workplaces are driven by deadlines, performance reviews, and reporting on end-of-day metrics. It’s not uncommon for team members to disagree on day-to-day tasks and projects. While certain disagreements can seem minor, other times, they lead to bigger issues that result in conflict. If your team doesn’t have the skills to address conflict, it may disrupt work processes and lead to toxic work environments. Workability Solutions can pair your organization with a coach to create open communication channels for constructive dialogue between team members. We can facilitate the sessions, meditate discussions, and help leaders establish the correct procedures to resolve conflict.

IDENTIFYING & OVERCOMING BARRIERS

Your Workability Coach can provide confidential one-on-one coaching with your team members to determine the underlying barriers preventing their success. The first step to finding the best solution is to identify the source of the problem. Our Coaches are experts in facilitating dialogue and prompting participants to take an in-depth and honest look into what’s holding them back. ASSESSMENT & CASE MANAGEMENT

We believe that fostering a collaborative approach helps all stakeholders benefit and overcomes occupational or personal barriers to success. Our solutions for case management provide mentorship to employers as they build equitable internal programs and policies on the following topics:

RETURN-TO-WORK (RTW) & STAY-AT-WORK (SAW) PROGRAMS

Workability Advisors are certificated Return-to-Work and Disability Management Professionals experienced in building and implementing successful RTW and SAW programs. Research indicates several benefits in keeping your employee attached to their employment following an injury or absence, even if they are not at full capacity. Our services mentor organisations through the accepted best practices in the field as you develop your internal program.

DUTY-TO-ACCOMMODATE (DTA)

An employee may be assigned a ‘permanent functional impairment’ if temporary cognitive or physical limitations do not resolve. An employee can request a “Medical Accommodation” from you if appropriate medical documentation supports a permanent restriction. Human Rights Code mandates that Employers must try to meet reasonable requests to the point of “undue hardship”.  A Workability Advisor experienced in accommodation will outline your rights and responsibilities and mentor you to find equitable solutions and develop internal policies.

ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT

Utilising the accepted best practices in the field, a Workability Advisor may provide, on a case-by-case basis, individual or group ergonomic assessment of MSI risk factors present in your workplace. Formalised assessments include completion of a self-screening questionnaire, pre and post-assessments, 1:1 coaching for your employee and an executive summary for your Occupational Health and Safety records.

JOB DEMANDS ANALYSIS (JDA)

This document outlines the physical and cognitive demands of the various occupations within your organisation.
It is an objective tool that is used to make decisions on accomodations, approving leaves, and drafting effective
return-to-work plans. A Workability Advisor may provide (or refer you to a partner provider), on a case-by-case basis,
a comprehensive JDA that you can utilise to base Disability Management and Return-to-Work decisions objectively.

CRITICAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT

Humans have natural reactions to events that occur in their environment and, on rare occasions, significant events can impact your team’s ability to globally function. If a significant event in your workplace results in cognitive, physical, emotional or behavioural changes, a Workability Coach can diffuse, debrief and provide 1:1 and group interventions for your team following recommendations set by the International Critical Stress Foundation.

RETURN-TO-WORK (RTW) & STAY-AT-WORK (SAW) PROGRAMS

At Workability Solutions, we have top-level advisors certificated as Return-to-Work and Disability Management professionals. They have extensive experience in building and implementing successful RTW and SAW programs and can work with your team members to ensure their requirements are met. It’s in the interest of all employers to retain their employees following an absence or injury, even if they can’t perform their job duties at full capacity. Our trusted advisors will work with employers to ensure they understand the benefits of retaining employees and communicate the details of each program throughout the process. Our services will guide your organization and advise you on the best practice methods to develop your internal programs.

DUTY-TO-ACCOMMODATE (DTA)

Under certain circumstances, a functional impairment  may be considered “permanent” and formal steps must be taken by you to safeguard the employee. This is typically when temporary cognitive or physical limitations still persist even after treatment. An employee has the right to request a “Medical Accommodation” if they reach a plateau in their rehabilitation or if temporary limitations do not resolve. Because this system is ‘medically-driven’ it is essential to receive appropriate medical documentation that outlines the limitations preventing them from carrying out their job duties. Employers must try to meet reasonable requests to the point of “undue hardship” where an individual is partially or fully exempt from performing specific job tasks and/or functions. Our Workability Advisors have a wealth of experience in working with both employers and employees in accommodating disabilities. An advisor will go over the details of your rights and responsibilities in these situations and mentor you as you find an equitable solution.

ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT

By using best practice methodologies, a Workability Advisor may provide, on a case-by-case basis, individual or group ergonomic assessments of MSI risk factors present in your workplace. The formal assessment process includes a self-screening questionnaire, pre- and post-assessments, one-on-one coaching for your employees, and an executive summary for your Occupational Health and Safety records.

JOB DEMANDS ANALYSIS (JDA)

The Job Demands Analysis outlines the physical and cognitive demands of the various occupations within your organization. Use this tool to make decisions on accommodating special needs, approving leave requests, and drafting effective return-to-work plans. A Workability Advisor may provide a comprehensive JDA that you can reference when making decisions, and we can refer you to a partner provider any time we can’t meet the service requirements.

CRITICAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT

It’s normal for individuals to feel overwhelmed when working in a demanding environment. However, when you don’t address these events accordingly when they arise, they can negatively impact your team’s ability to function. Suppose a significant event in your workplace results in cognitive, physical, emotional or behavioural changes. In that case, a Workability Coach can diffuse these events and provide one-on-one sessions and group interventions for your team. We also provide recommendations by following the mandates set out by the International Critical Stress Foundation.
